Performance notes
-----------------

Here is my best shot at what the "rhythm" guitar
is playing. I watched a video of The Dance
where they play the song in concert, but
unfortunately it offers very few views of Lindsey's
chords. Before I saw the video I thought the guitar
was in double dropped D (DADGBd), but the way he
fingers the Cadd9 and Bb in The Dance convinces me
that it's just traditional dropped D (DADGBe).

Note that Lindsey doesn't use a flatpick, but
fingerpicks all of his songs (as did Robby Krieger
of The Doors). Lindsey picks with his thumb, index,
and middle fingers, but doesn't use a regular picking
pattern in this song. You just have to play along
with the recording a bit to get the feel for the
picking style. Note that there is also an open-G
Dobro slide guitar in the mix, so don't confuse the
two when you are listening.

Rhythm guitar:
Dropped-D tuning (DADGBe)

Note->  DADGBe
        ++++++
D       00023x (technically a D5 since there's no f#)
Dm6     00033x (just fret with the free middle finger)
G/B     02003x
G       55003x
Cadd9   03203x
Bb      x13331 (standard barre chord. May not play first string)
Dm      000231  The outro is based on a Dm-Dsus2-D progression
Dsus2   000230  using the standard open chords. Sometimes
emphasising the f-e-d note progression on
the first and second strings, sometimes
using base note patterns using open
and third-fret notes on the fourth
                and fifth strings: (03023x), (00323x).

Intro: D-Dm6-D

D                 G/B
Rock on gold dust woman
Cadd9            G
Take your silver spoon
             D-Dm6-D
And dig your grave

Heartless challenge
Pick your path and I'll pray
(music)

Wake up in the mornin'
See your sunrise
Loves to go down

Lousy lovers
Pick their prey
But they never cry out loud

...Cry out...

Bb
Well did she make you cry
G
Make you break down
Cadd9                     D
Shatter your illusions of love

Bb
And is it over now
G
Do you know how
Cadd9                        D-Dm6-D
To pick up the pieces and go home

Rock on ancient queen
Follow those who pale
In your shadow

Rulers make bad lovers
You'd better put your kingdom
Up for sale

...Up for sale...

Well did she make you cry
Make you break down
Shatter your illusions of love

Well is it over now
Do you know how
To pick up the pieces and go home

Well did she make you cry
Make you break down
Shatter your illusions of love

And now tell me is it over now
Do you know how
To pick up the pieces and go home

Go home...

Go home...

(break out the tom-toms)

outro:
(ad lib phrases)

Dm  Dsus2  D
Ooo Pale...shadow...of a woman

Black...widow

Pale...shadow...of a dragon
