Rising in Love
Words and music by David Roth
This is my first posting here, so constructive criticism is
welcome. This is one of my favorite songs, one of the best wedding
songs I've ever heard (I used it at my wedding). I heard this on
the collection _On_A_Winter's_Night_ , and it's credits say it's
originally from the album _May_The_Light_Of_Love_ by David Roth.
A few notes:
1. I've labelled one chord D/F#*, which is most likely the
wrong name, but I've drawn the chord below. If anyone knows a good
name for this chord, I'm interested in correcting this. Similarly,
the C and D diminished chords near the end of the song may not be the
appropriate names for this particular key, but that's what I call
them.
2. I must confess, I often don't play the key change at the
end of the bridge -- it's too easy to stay in D. When I'm feeling
lazy I just play an Asus4 followed by an A instead of the B chord,
and continue on in the key of D.
3. Some of the chords I drew below use the thumb -- I hope
this doesn't offend any purists. I started using my thumb too many
years ago to stop now.
Enjoy,

Rising in Love
Words and music by David Roth
Vamp: D D/F# G G/A
Dsus2 D/F# G G/A
D D/F# A Bm Em7 D/F#* Bm A
Everyone looks for their calling in love, but I always find it surprising,
D D/F# A Bm
The way people say that they're falling in love,
Em7 D/F#* F# F#sus4 F#
when I always felt I was rising.
Bm Bm/A D D7
Floating right off of the ground and reaching
G F#
Something I only had dreamed of.
Em7 D/F#* G A (Vamp)
I'm not falling at all, I am rising in love.
Everyone talks about tying the knot, but I have a hard time agreeing
With the way that we bind up the love that we've got,
when the feeling of love should be freeing.
Oh, lifting each other up, instead of giving one another a shove.
We won't be falling at all, we'll be rising in love.
Bridge:
Bm Bm/A G
How do you let love grow?
D/F# Em7 D/F#* Bm Bm/A
You've got to give it a chance when you've found it.
G D/F# Em
A bird in your hand will stay until
Em7 A (Key change! :-)) B
You start to close your fingers around it.
E E/G# B7 C#m
Love is the river whose waters we test,
F#m7 E/G# C#m B
And a measure of where we are going.
E E/G# B7 C#m
But you never can step in the same river twice,
F#m7 E/G# G# G#sus4 G#
For the water is constantly flowing.
C#m C#m/A E E7
But the deeper the river, the greater the trust,
A G#
And the more that we're rising above.
F#m E/G#* C#m B F#m F#m/G#
